About Fishaye Trading Company
Artist and Owner John F Doherty started as a fisherman in Cape Cod, MA when he began to create his artwork using the ancient fish rubbing technique, which originated in the Orient over two thousand years ago. The process was originally used to document different species and sizes of fish due to the technique's ability to accurately show the details in each fish, but the process was soon transformed into an art form. Each print is created by mixing paint or ink which is then applied directly onto the fish. The fish is then covered with a fine piece of paper or fabric and then gently rubbed to transfer the detailed image of the fish.
